Tratayenia rosalesi

Megaraptorans are a strange, enigmatic family of theropods with controversial relationships. Variously considered Allosauroids and Tyrannosauroids in the past, current evidence suggests they are basal Coelurosaurs outside Tyrannosauroidea. Tratayenia is one of the largest and most recently named definite Megaraptorids found; having been discovered back in 2006 in the Bajo de la Carpa Formation of Argentina, and later named in 2018. Megaraptorids were imposing predators with long snouts and very large manal claws and long forelimbs; which may have been used to grasp and manipulate prey. Tratayenia lived during the Late Cretaceous of Argentina.
